Education & Training

I earned my Ph.D. and Master of Arts in Developmental Psychology from UCLA, and my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. As a postdoctoral research fellow in the CDU-UCLA Cancer Center Partnership to Eliminate Cancer Health Disparities, I investigated how trauma and chronic stress contribute to elevated risk for reproductive cancers among African American women. Across both research and clinical practice, my understanding of chronic stress profoundly informs how I support individuals and families, helping them navigate challenges with compassion, evidence-based insight, and a developmental perspective.

ABOUT ME

Dr. Juana Gatson, PhD

Post-Doctoral Fellow

As a developmental psychologist, I draw upon my experiences as a researcher, therapist, and parent to guide my approach to assessment and treatment. My research focuses on understanding how stress and resilience shape disparities in maternal and child health outcomes, with particular expertise in mental health and health inequities.

Clinically, I've worked with many autistic individuals, as well as those with other forms of neurodivergence. These experiences have deepened my commitment to broadening my understanding of neurodivergence and to enhancing assessment and treatment practices in ways that promote dignity, autonomy, and pathways to independence.

Personal Life

Beyond my professional life, I am a mother and a true native Angeleno, with deep love for the Dodgers, Lakers, Rams, and the vibrant culture of low riders. I occasionally hear the voices of Chick Hearn and Art Laboe echoing in my head, reminders of the city I call home.

I look forward to providing the support you need at this point in your journey, and to meeting you soon!
